   I am reviewing the Hathdia Extended Long Probe Soil Moisture Meter. There are similar brands available in the market. When testing the meter in a glass of water, it provides an expected “wet” reading. In wet clay soil, the meter also gives accurate results. However, when used in wet sandy soil commonly found in potted plants, it shows a “dry” reading. This has raised concerns about proper watering for new plants in sandy soil mix. Further investigation will be needed to address this issue….

   I was new to these products and needed ones with longer stems for my larger indoor pot. These probes were exactly what I was looking for and were reasonably priced. They are easy to use – simply push them gently into the soil to check moisture levels in different layers. Depending on your plant’s needs, you can then decide when to water. I did have a mishap where one probe got stuck in the drainage layer and the tip broke off when I tried to pull it out. My mistake for not following…

   I purchased the 30-gallon fabric pots and found them to be both deep and wide, ensuring there are no dry pockets anywhere. These pots work perfectly with potted soil. I use a pinched finger as a depth gauge to repeatedly stab into the soil, ensuring accurate readings by going deeper incrementally around. Keeping the cap on and wiping it clean ensures that this meter works efficiently.

   I have numerous potted plants in my home, and it can be challenging to tell when the soil is dry, particularly with my large potted fiddle leaf fig tree. These moisture meters provide a simple solution by quickly indicating whether the soil is dry near the surface or deeper in the pot. What’s great is that it doesn’t need batteries! This tool will help prevent overwatering mishaps. I highly recommend it!

   This product has been a lifesaver in preventing me from overwatering my houseplants. It eliminates the need to manually check the soil moisture by sticking your finger in the dirt. The long probe is ideal for reaching deep into larger pots. A fantastic tool for maintaining the health of your plants!
